Xbox Added 3 Classic Games From the ’90s, Including a Surprise Arcade Release

There’s something about '90s games that still feels different.

Maybe it's because games from that era were generally more compact, more experimental, or simply less concerned with giving you 100 hours of content. Whatever the reason, I've found myself drawn back to them. 

I still enjoy a huge modern AAA game, but sometimes I would rather spend an evening with an old-school shooter or arcade game than start another massive open-world adventure.

And that makes this week particularly interesting for Xbox players.

Three games originally released in the '90s are making their Xbox debuts, and all three are available to play this week. We're getting a remastered PC shooter, a six-game Amiga collection, and a 1996 arcade classic making a surprise appearance through Arcade Archives 2.

XEVIOUS 3D/G Is the Surprise Xbox Release

The first one is Arcade Archives 2 XEVIOUS 3D/G, which arrived on September 23 for Xbox Series X|S.

This is the sort of release that makes following Arcade Archives 2 worthwhile because these games tend to appear with very little warning.

Originally released by Namco in 1996, XEVIOUS 3D/G takes the classic XEVIOUS formula and moves it into 3D, with polygonal visuals, different camera angles, new weapons, and additional enemies.

It's also the most affordable of the three releases at $16.99, so you could consider it if you're curious about how arcade developers were experimenting with 3D during the '90s.

For me, though, the bigger appeal is more around getting another piece of arcade history on a modern Xbox.
