You know that frustrating moment when you’re trying to find a song? You remember the melody, a few lyrics, maybe even the movie it played in, but your search results act like they’ve never heard of it. Well, Amazon knows that feeling, too.

That’s why it’s giving Amazon Music a serious upgrade with Alexa+, its new AI-powered assistant released earlier this year. The goal here is to make music discovery feel more natural. And this isn’t the same Alexa that tells you the weather. It’s smarter, more conversational, and built to vibe with you.

Starting today, users in the Alexa+ Early Access program can update their Amazon Music app on iOS or Android to try it out. Once you’re in, tap the “A” button in the bottom corner and start chatting. You can say things like, “Play that mellow track from Suits,” or “Give me songs that feel like a lazy Sunday evening.”

But Alexa+ isn’t just taking song requests. It’s positioning itself as your AI DJ, music critic, and trivia buddy all at once. You can ask about the story behind a song, where an album charted, or when your favourite artist’s next show is. It even keeps up with follow-up questions, just like a friend who knows everything about music.

This new version, Alexa+, already appears in other Amazon products, from Ring devices and Kindles to Echo Studio speakers and Vega TVs. Early testers say it feels more human to talk to, even if it occasionally slips on small details (like saying Friday when it’s obviously Wednesday).

For now, Alexa+ is in Early Access for all Amazon Music users. When it officially launches, Prime members will get it free, while non-Prime users will pay $20 a month, which, ironically, is more than a Prime subscription itself.

The takeaway

By baking Alexa+ directly into Amazon Music, Amazon isn’t just tweaking an app, but changing how people connect with music. Listening now becomes a conversation about sound, mood, and memory. If this early version is anything to go by, the future of streaming might not come from playlists or algorithms, but from a chat with your new AI music companion.

YouTube Music is testing a new feature that could rival Spotify’s AI DJ
It could change how you listen, turning playlists into mini radio shows with trivia, stories, and commentary layered between songs.
