BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment’s major gaming event featuring new game and expansion announcements, gameplay reveals, developer panels, esports competitions, and fan activities, got off to a big start. The opening ceremony delivered several announcements, but two stood out above the rest: a new Diablo game is coming, and StarCraft is making a comeback.
Blizzard confirmed that Diablo V is in development and targeting a Spring 2029 release, while a completely new open-world StarCraft game is planned for 2030. The StarCraft reveal is particularly interesting because it is not another real-time strategy game. Blizzard describes it as an original open-world shooter, and Xbox has confirmed that it will come to consoles as well as PC.
Here’s everything worth knowing from BlizzCon 2026.
StarCraft Returns With a New Game Coming to Consoles in 2030
StarCraft is coming back, but not in the way many fans probably expected.
Blizzard announced a new open-world StarCraft shooter targeting 2030. Rather than returning to the franchise's traditional RTS roots, the new game will put players directly into the StarCraft universe through a shooter built around an open-world setting.
There's still a lot we don't know, including the game's full title, gameplay systems and how Blizzard plans to translate StarCraft's factions and large-scale warfare into this format. The biggest Xbox detail came shortly after the announcement: the game is confirmed for consoles alongside PC.
