I switched through roughly six therapists before I finally had a therapy session on Blueroomcare.

By the third or fourth switch, I had started wondering if I was the problem.

Maybe I was being too picky. Maybe I had misunderstood how the platform worked. Or maybe finding the right therapist is just one of those things that takes time, even when an app is supposed to make it easier.

It turned out to be a bit of everything.

Blueroomcare is a virtual behavioural healthcare provider and digital mental health platform. Like many mental health apps I've come across over the years, I initially assumed it was going to be another glorified meditation app: breathing exercises, journaling, some guided sessions and a collection of things to do when you're feeling particularly stressed.

It does have all of those things, as seen in the screenshot above. But the more interesting part of Blueroomcare begins when you decide you actually want to speak to someone.

That's also where the app started testing my patience.

Finding a therapist without having to find one

Before Blueroomcare matches you with a therapist, it asks a series of questions about what you're looking for.

  • What do you want help with?
  • What are your preferences?
  • What kind of professional would you feel comfortable speaking with?

Some of the questions go into areas like religion and sexuality, which I appreciated because these aren't necessarily things you want to explain for the first time halfway through a therapy session.

Based on your answers, Blueroomcare matches you with a therapist it believes would be a good fit.
