China experienced a 5% YoY decline in smartphone sales in Q1 2023, marking the lowest Q1 sales figure since 2014 according to Counterpoint's Market Pulse Service,
However, this was an improvement from the double-digit YoY declines observed in previous quarters and indicates a possible stabilization in the market. In Q1, sales increased by 10% QoQ as the country emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic
Per vendor performance, Apple saw an uptick in the year with a 6% YoY increase in sales. Meanwhile, major Android OEMs saw YoY declines in the quarter as demand remained weak and have remained cautious in ramping up production, as the Techloy chart below shows.
