Against global and regional downward trends, smartphone shipments in Ecuador experienced an 18% year-on-year (YoY) increase in Q1 2023 and also a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth of 18%, according to the latest research from Counterpoint.
The first quarter marked the best first-quarter performance for the region since 2018 despite economic deceleration and political turmoil – driven by the reduction of mobile device import duty from 15% to 0% by the Ecuadorian government in 2022, along with reduced import taxes on telecommunication network equipment.
