Emeteria’s elemental action-adventure RPG is out now on PlayStation 5, with a free demo also available.

There’s no shortage of action-adventure games on PS5, but Fading Echo is taking a different approach to combat and exploration.

Developed by Emeteria, a studio under New Tales, the game puts water manipulation, elemental reactions, and reality shifting at the centre of almost everything you do. You don’t simply fight enemies and move from one objective to the next. The idea is to experiment with the world around you and figure out how its systems can work together.

Fading Echo launched on PS5 on September 22, 2026, and a free demo is available on the PlayStation Store for anyone who wants to try it before committing to the full game.

So, what exactly is Fading Echo, and what makes its gameplay different?

Sony has launched free, ad-supported Live TV on PS5, giving U.S. players access to more than 100 live channels and on-demand content.

What is Fading Echo about?

You play as One, a young Legend attempting to save the fractured world of Corel from a mysterious force known as the Paradox.

Corel isn't a conventional fantasy world. The Paradox has fractured reality, creating different versions of the same spaces and fundamentally changing how One explores them.

That premise feeds directly into the gameplay.

As One travels through Corel, she'll encounter floating islands, corrupted environments, and alternate realities while trying to understand the Paradox and her own mysterious past.

The story isn't only about saving the world, either. One is also trying to discover who she really is and why she has the powers that make her central to Corel's survival.

How does Fading Echo gameplay work?

The biggest gameplay hook is Æther, the water-like element that powers many of One's abilities.

One can manipulate Æther as a weapon, but she can also transform herself into a living blob of water. That changes how she moves through the world.

In this form, One can build momentum, travel through pipes, squeeze through narrow gaps, and launch herself across the environment. Those abilities can reveal new routes and help solve environmental puzzles, but they can also become part of combat.

Sylvain Sechi, Game Co-Director and Studio Head at Emeteria, explained that the team specifically wanted movement to become part of the player's toolkit.

“One of our goals with Æther form was to make movement itself part of your toolbox,” Sechi said.

That distinction matters because Fading Echo doesn't treat movement simply as a way of getting from one fight to the next. Your ability to move through the environment can itself become a solution.

Water is more than a combat ability

Water can interact with other elements in the environment, including lava, toxic waste, and Paradox corruption. Those interactions can produce different effects and chain reactions. That means an encounter isn't necessarily about finding the correct attack combination and repeating it.

You might drench an enemy before conducting energy through them, manipulate the environment to create a hazard, or use the surrounding elements to change the battlefield entirely.

The game's design is built around experimentation, giving players room to discover combinations rather than forcing everyone through exactly the same combat sequence.

How does reality shifting work in Fading Echo?

Reality shifting is the other major system that separates Fading Echo from a more conventional action RPG.
