Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, arrives on August 20 with a season built around characters and references from some of gaming's biggest franchises.

Epic's reveal material has shown characters from Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts and Mega Man, alongside references to Tetris, Pac-Man and Cyberpunk 2077.

But the new season isn't simply a collection of crossover skins. Some of the references appear as locations, environmental details or gameplay elements, while others may become cosmetics.

Here's what we know about Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 so far.

When does Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 start?

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override launches on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The new season follows Chapter 7 Season 3 and will arrive after the usual maintenance period that accompanies a major Fortnite update.

Epic hasn't yet detailed every change coming with the launch, so some of the information circulating ahead of release remains based on what has appeared in the reveal material or been reported elsewhere.

Which gaming franchises are appearing in Fortnite Override?

The reveal material has shown a wide range of gaming characters and references, including:

  • Sonic
  • Shadow
  • Knuckles
  • Eggman
  • Tails
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Spyro the Dragon
  • Joker from Persona 5
  • Sora from Kingdom Hearts
  • Mega Man
  • Rush from Mega Man
  • V from Cyberpunk 2077
  • Pac-Man and the ghosts
  • Tetris

But these should not all be described as confirmed Fortnite skins. The season uses its gaming references in different ways. Some characters are expected to appear as cosmetics, while other references are incorporated into the island or gameplay.

For example, Pac-Man's ghosts appear in the environment, while a Green Hill Zone-inspired location brings Sonic's world into the Fortnite island.
