Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra users now have a new headache to deal with. According to multiple reports, some Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra users are experiencing severe battery drain, overheating, and slower charging after installing Samsung’s July 2026 security update.
“My Samsung S25 Ultra battery is draining faster than usual after a recent security update. Overnight, it’s draining almost 60% of the full battery. Is anybody else experiencing the same?” One user wrote on Samsung’s community forum.
It isn’t just battery life that’s being affected. Users are also reporting that their devices are getting significantly warmer than usual, while some have noticed noticeably slower charging speeds.

What’s causing the issue?
Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the problem, and the exact cause remains unclear. But some users believe the issue may not be Samsung’s update alone. Instead, they suspect it involves WhatsApp.
According to users investigating the problem, the July security patch appears to leave WhatsApp stuck in an encrypted backup loop.
Because the app continuously tries to resume and complete the backup, it keeps running in the background, consuming significantly more power than usual—especially while the phone is idle. That could also explain why affected devices are overheating.
Reports suggest the issue mainly affects Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra devices running firmware version CZG3.
