You have seen Westeros on television for more than a decade. Now, you will have to go to the cinema to see where the story really began.

Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, the first feature film in the Game of Thrones universe, is set to arrive in cinemas on June 1, 2029, with Warner Bros. Pictures behind the theatrical release. No ticket price has been announced yet, and there is still no confirmed production or cast information.

What we do know is that Owen Harris, who directed three episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will direct the film, while Beau Willimon, creator of House of Cards and a writer on Andor, is writing the screenplay.

House of the Dragon Season 3: 940M Minutes on HBO Max
House of the Dragon drew 940 million viewing minutes during Season 3 finale week, keeping the HBO series among streaming’s biggest shows.

Who was Aegon The Conqueror?

If you have only watched the HBO shows, Aegon may sound like another Targaryen name in a family full of them. He is actually the person who established the dynasty that eventually produced rulers such as Daenerys Targaryen.

Aegon I arrived in Westeros with his sisters and wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, and their three dragons: Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes. Together, they conquered most of the Seven Kingdoms and brought them under one ruler. Aegon then created the Iron Throne from the swords of defeated enemies.

The story comes from George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, the same book that provided the source material for House of the Dragon. It gives the new film a connection to a part of Westerosi history that viewers have heard about but have never seen fully portrayed on screen.
