PlayStation fans will have to wait a little longer to experience Faye's first major adventure in the God of War universe. Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey from February 16 to May 20, 2027, moving the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive back by just over three months.

The developer announced the change on November 4, explaining that the additional time will allow the team to finish polishing the game and deliver an experience that meets expectations following its June reveal.

While another delay is disappointing for players who had already marked February on their calendars, the studio appears keen to give its next major God of War release the time it needs.

God of War Laufey Pre-Order: Bonuses, Price & Editions
The God of War Laufey price is still unconfirmed, while pre-order details reveal bonuses and the February 16, 2027 release date.

Why has God of War Laufey been delayed?

Santa Monica Studio hasn't pointed to any specific development problems, technical difficulties, or production setbacks behind the decision. Instead, its explanation centres on giving the team more time to complete the game.

In its official announcement, the studio said, "With this in mind, we've decided to delay God of War Laufey's release to May 20, 2027. We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential."

That distinction matters. The studio hasn't suggested that the game is in trouble or that its scope has changed. The stated priority is to use the additional development time to put the finishing touches on the experience.

There's also a lot riding on this release. Unlike the recent Norse adventures led by Kratos and Atreus, Laufey puts Faye at the centre of the story, giving players an opportunity to explore a character whose influence has shaped the franchise without previously having her own leading adventure.

As PlayStation's original reveal explains, the story follows Faye after her death, when she unexpectedly awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods and creatures from different mythologies compete for power.

With Deborah Ann Woll returning as Faye, the game also introduces new companions, including Phranque, a talking cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian voiced by Perlina Lau.

The additional development time should give the team more room to refine Faye's combat, exploration, and the wider world surrounding her journey.

What happens to God of War Laufey pre-orders?

The delay doesn't mean existing pre-orders have been cancelled. However, Sony and Santa Monica Studio have yet to publish specific instructions explaining how individual retailers will handle the revised date.

Players who have already purchased the game should check their PlayStation Store accounts or retailer order details for updated release information. There is no announcement requiring buyers to place another order simply because the launch date has changed.

The good news is that the previously announced pre-order incentives remain part of the game's advertised offer. These include the Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque's Golden Leaves Appearance, and an in-game resource pack.

According to the official pre-order breakdown, these bonuses are available when purchasing either the Standard or Digital Deluxe Edition before launch.
