Google brings AI-powered search results to YouTube
It’ll help you figure out what to watch, not just throw thumbnails at you.
Google’s AI tour is officially making a stop at YouTube.
After showcasing its AI capabilities with Search through AI Overviews and transforming Google Workspace with smart tools like Help Me Write, the company is now bringing that same AI magic to the world’s largest video platform.
This time, it’s rolling out an AI-powered search results carousel on YouTube that doesn’t just find videos, it curates them, summarizes them, and helps you explore deeper.
So, if you’re searching for “best AI courses 2025,” instead of an endless list of video thumbnails, you’ll now see an AI-generated carousel that helps you summarize the options. You might get a top video recommendation walking through the latest AI certifications, followed by clips comparing course content from Stanford, DeepLearning.AI, or Google.

This upgraded carousel includes a main featured video on top, thumbnails underneath, and a short, smart description responding directly to your query. For now, it’s in English only, on mobile (iOS and Android), and available to a randomly selected set of Premium users in the U.S. until July 30th.
But that’s not all, YouTube’s conversational AI tool is also getting more accessible. Previously, it was reserved for Premium members; now it’s expanding to some non-Premium users. You can ask questions about what you're watching, get explanations on topics, or even quiz yourself on academic content. It’s like ChatGPT but for your study playlists or DIY tutorials.
This is just an expansion of what Google has already done with AI Overviews in traditional search. Now, it’s taking that approach to video discovery. The goal is to make AI help you learn faster, plan smarter, and find exactly what you’re looking for, even if you didn’t quite know how to ask.
