Grand Theft Auto VI may finally have a release date, but one former Rockstar Games developer believes fans shouldn't completely rule out another delay.

After already slipping from its original 2025 window to May 2026, and later to November 19, 2026. many players are hoping the wait is finally coming to an end. But according to former Rockstar animator Mike York, another postponement wouldn't be surprising if the studio feels the game isn't ready.

Former Rockstar Animator Says GTA 6 Could Still Be Delayed

Speaking in an interview with Indy100, York reflected on his time working at Rockstar Games and explained that the studio has always prioritized quality over release schedules.

Although he stressed that he no longer works at Rockstar and has no insider knowledge of GTA 6's current development, he said his experience suggests another delay remains a realistic possibility.

“Personally, after being there and working on GTA 5, I don't currently work there so I can't give a confidence based on that, but based on my previous experience, they could delay it again”, York said.

According to York, Rockstar has earned enough trust from its audience that it can afford to take extra time if necessary.

“They can do whatever they want, and people will wait right now; it doesn't matter. If they need to do what they need to do, they'll do it”, he added.

Why Another GTA 6 Delay Can't Be Ruled Out

York believes the biggest factor would be the game's overall quality heading into launch.
