How to Change the Screen Timeout in Windows 11
Control when your screen turns off so it works with your pace, not against it.
Ever gotten up from your desk, only to come back after a few seconds and find your PC screen already off? I’ve certainly been there.
Between working on a project or reading long articles, having the display cut out too soon (or not soon enough) disrupts my flow. Thankfully, Windows 11 lets you customize display timeout settings easily.
Let's discuss several methods to do it.
Steps to Adjust Screen Timeout via Settings
Step 1: Right-click the Start button on the taskbar and select "Settings" from the displayed options

Step 2: On the Home tab, select "Power & battery"

Step 3: Now, expand the Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts section

Step 4: Under the Plugged in section, click the drop-down beside "Turn my screen off after", then select a preferred time you wish your display to go off when inactive. Do the same for the On battery section

Steps to Adjust Screen Timeout Through the Control Panel
Step 1: Click the Start button, search for "Control Panel", and select the Control Panel app from the results

Step 2: In the Control Panel, select "Hardware and Sound"

Step 3: Now, click "Power Options"

Step 4: Select "Change plan settings" next to your active power plan.

Step 5: Under the On battery option, click the "Turn off the display" drop-down and select a preferred time you wish your PC to go off when inactive. Do the same for the Plugged in option

Conclusion
Changing your screen timeout settings might seem minor, but it can make a big difference in how your PC fits your routine. Whether you're reading long-form content, stepping away from your desk often, or trying to save battery on the go, customizing how long your screen stays on gives you more control over your experience.
So, either you use the Settings or Control Panel, Windows 11 gives you the flexibility to set your display timeout just the way you want it, balancing power savings, convenience, and productivity.
