A quiet vacation has turned into a story that is now drawing global attention. Joe McCann, a well-known name in crypto circles, is currently being held in Tanzania as authorities investigate the sudden death of his fiancée, Ashly Robinson.
The couple had checked into a luxury resort in Zanzibar in early April, sharing moments online that, at the time, looked like a typical getaway. But within days, things changed. After what reports now describe as a disagreement, hotel staff separated the pair into different rooms. Not long after, Robinson was found unconscious in her room and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Local authorities initially suggested suicide, but that explanation has not settled well with everyone. Robinson’s family has publicly questioned the circumstances, calling for a deeper investigation. McCann, who has not been formally charged with any crime, has had his passport seized and remains in the country while police continue their enquiries.
“The regional police chief said that in addition to the investigations already conducted, the force must continue with interviews to establish whether there was any crime, and therefore several people are being questioned. We must question hotel staff, and her fiancé on everything, so that later on, we can reach a conclusion on whether there was a crime or not,” Zanzibar's North Unguja police chief Benedict Mapujira told local media, adding that Mr McCann is still being questioned.

Just days before her death, Robinson shared posts from Tanzania, including moments that suggested a major life step. One video showed McCann proposing, adding another layer of attention to the story now unfolding.
Right now, the focus is on what investigators will find as they continue speaking with witnesses and reviewing evidence. Authorities have made it clear that they are not rushing to conclusions.
McCann remains in Tanzania, while Robinson’s family continues to push for clarity.
