Gridless, a Kenya-based crypto company, is using the excess electricity from mini-grid hydro generators to mine bitcoin, in a move that could potentially help decentralize bitcoin mining.

According to the company, it has been working with mini-grid hydro generators in Kenya on how to use their excess capacity for Bitcoin mining, which also significantly reduces the cost of power to the local community.

For now, Gridless uses mini-hydropower plants that generate less than 100 KW (kilowatts), but has plans to work with larger plants which can generate 500 KW in the future.
