If you still play Pokémon Unite, you have a few months left to enjoy its battles before the servers go dark. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the free-to-play MOBA will shut down on March 23, 2027, ending service on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

The announcement also means some changes are already in effect. As of October 27, players can no longer buy Aeos Gems, the game's premium currency, sign up for a new Unite Club membership or renew an existing membership automatically.

But you don't have to stop playing today. Pokémon Unite will remain available until its shutdown date, and The Pokémon Company has planned a farewell event with rewards and a new Library feature. Here's what the closure means for your account, purchases and progress, and what you should do before the game goes offline.

Dataminers say they've uncovered 25 Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia’s files, alongside clues about seasonal events and a possible new character.

When is Pokémon Unite shutting down?

According to The Pokémon Company's official shutdown announcement, Pokémon Unite will shut down on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. The closure affects both the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions, so players on iOS and Android will lose access alongside Switch players.

The game launched on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021, before arriving on mobile devices. Since then, it has given Pokémon fans a different way to enjoy the franchise, with five-on-five battles that put teamwork, scoring and strategic Pokémon choices at the centre of each match.

Once the shutdown takes effect, players will no longer be able to log in or participate in battles. For anyone who has spent years unlocking Pokémon, collecting Holowear or climbing the ranks with friends, that means the game's online experience has a firm end date.

Can you still play Pokémon Unite before the shutdown?

Yes. Pokémon Unite will remain playable until March 23, 2027. The announcement does not say that the game is shutting down immediately, so you can continue battling while the service remains active.

However, the way you spend money in the game has already changed. Aeos Gem sales stopped on October 27, and players can no longer purchase new Unite Club memberships. Automatic renewals for existing memberships have also been suspended.

If you already have Aeos Gems in your account, you can use them until the game closes. Existing Unite Club members can keep their benefits until their current membership period ends.

The Pokémon Company's announcement does not confirm a refund programme for unused Aeos Gems. Don't assume you'll receive a refund when the servers shut down; check the official end-of-service notice for the confirmed arrangements.
