Meta Plans to Pay Creators Cash Bonuses for Engaging Content on Threads
Only creators with 2,500 eligible views and above will be considered for Meta's cash bonuses on Threads.
Tech giant Meta, in a new testing phase, plans to pay out cash bonuses to creators who make engaging content for its new app Threads.
The payment program will only consider creators with 2,500 eligible views and above, with cash payments to be determined based on the performance of posts and the number of posts shared on the app. However, the company did not give comprehensive information on where the bonus program is accessible or how long the program will run.
This invite program is the latest among the efforts Meta is putting in to show that it takes its text-based app seriously and wants to retain its users, especially with the rising competition from others like Bluesky, Mastodon, and Elon Musk's X, which has an engagement-based payment program for its creators.
Threads saw a surge in downloads in July last year, at the time of its launch, and has been growing steadily over the past nine months, with the app having more than 130 million monthly active users in February, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company's financial result's brief for the fourth quarter.
The app also has the most downloads coming from India, at 19%, followed by the United States at 13%, and Brazil in third at 7%. According to an analyst at Evercore ISI, it is estimated to generate $8 billion in revenue by 2025.
