The New Street Fighter Movie Looks Ridiculously Fun

I’ve been unreasonably excited for the new Street Fighter movie ever since its first teaser appeared during The Game Awards. Set to the infectious “Punk Tactics,” the teaser offered a colorful live-action take on Street Fighter II, packed with familiar faces, ridiculous fights, and just enough chaos to make the whole thing feel promising.

Now, the latest Street Fighter trailer has made one thing very clear: this movie has absolutely no interest in being subtle.

Want to see a real-life Hadouken? You’re getting one. Chun-Li is bringing the kicks, Blanka is apparently going full CGI, and the entire movie looks like it was designed to turn the absurdity of the games into live-action spectacle.

And honestly? I’m here for it.

The Street Fighter Movie Doesn’t Need to Take Itself Seriously

At this point, I couldn’t care less about whether Street Fighter has the most complicated plot in the world. The more interesting question is whether director Kitao Sakurai can capture the ridiculous energy that has always made the games so much fun.

Judging from the trailer, the answer might be yes.

Everything is turned up to eleven: the colors, the costumes, the sweat, the martial arts and, of course, the special moves. It looks less interested in making Street Fighter feel grounded and more interested in making the world of the games feel like it has exploded onto a movie screen.

That approach makes sense. Street Fighter has never been a particularly restrained franchise. Its fighters have outrageous personalities, impossible abilities, and moves that were always going to look ridiculous when translated into live action.

So why fight it?
