OpenAI is expanding the reach of its ChatGPT for Teachers product through 55 new partnerships with American school districts. The AI company continues its push to make artificial intelligence more accessible to educators while giving school systems greater control and oversight over how the tools are used.
The new school districts represent more than 300,000 staffers and 2 million students, according to Business Insider, although the product is currently available only to adults.
OpenAI hasn't yet integrated student accounts or student-facing features into ChatGPT for Teachers.

What is ChatGPT for Teachers?
Back in November 2025, the ChatGPT owner launched ChatGPT for Teachers as a version of its AI platform designed specifically for educators and school staff, with a commitment to keep the product free for eligible U.S. educators through June 2028.
The tool is designed to fit into the work teachers already do, providing educators with workspaces built for the education environment, along with onboarding and prompts tailored to their work, according to reports.
With these features, OpenAI says teachers can use the tool for tasks such as developing lesson plans, creating explanations on different topics, and handling other work that can take up time outside the classroom.
Who is it for?
For now, ChatGPT for Teachers is designed strictly for educators and other adult school staff, with students yet to have direct access to the product through student accounts or student-facing features.
