MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is getting its first post-launch character, and Arc System Works has gone beyond simply adding another familiar version of Cyclops to the roster.

Phoenix Cyclops, the expected new character, arrives on November 2, 2026.

It promises PS5 and PC players a Phoenix Force-powered version of Scott Summers as the first character included in the game's Year 1 Character and Stage Pass.

Xbox Game Pass October 2026 Lineup: Games and Release Dates
The October lineup has grown with new additions including Battlefield 6, Forever Ago and Bluey’s Happy Snaps, with more games still to come.

Who is Phoenix Cyclops in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?

Phoenix Cyclops is based on Scott Summers' Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men, rather than the standard version of Cyclops that has appeared in previous Marvel fighting games.

That gives him a younger appearance and a moveset built around his connection to the Phoenix Force. His trademark Optic Blasts remain central to his attacks, but they are now combined with Phoenix-powered abilities and a potential transformation into Dark Phoenix.

It is a sensible choice for a character who has already been adapted into several Marvel fighting games.

How does Phoenix Cyclops play?

Phoenix Cyclops is designed as an all-rounder, allowing players to fight effectively at both long and close range.

His Optic Blasts provide the foundation of his attacks, while Phoenix-powered fire abilities let him control larger areas of the screen. His toolkit also includes projectiles, rushing attacks, throws, and setup options.

The standout mechanic is his Solar Shard system. Cyclops can build Solar Shards by using his Optic Blast abilities. Once he collects four, he can transform into Dark Phoenix, temporarily gaining a significant boost in power.

But one trade-off is that Dark Phoenix drains his health.

That gives the character a straightforward risk-and-reward mechanic. Players have to decide when the additional power is worth sacrificing health, rather than activating a stronger form whenever it is available. It also ties his gameplay directly to the story behind his Phoenix Force incarnation in Avengers vs. X-Men.

When can you play Phoenix Cyclops on PS5?

Phoenix Cyclops launches on November 2, 2026, for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

The character will be available on PS5 and PC as part of the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass. The base game launched on August 6, 2026.

Players attending EVO France from October 9–11 will also get an early opportunity to try Phoenix Cyclops before his wider release. For everyone else, November 2 is the date to keep in mind.

Does Phoenix Cyclops have a classic Cyclops costume?

Yes. Players who would rather use a more familiar version of Scott Summers will have Classic and Legacy costumes available when Phoenix Cyclops launches.
