Sony has released its latest PlayStation Store download rankings, revealing which games players downloaded most across PS5, PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play categories in May 2026.
The month's biggest winner was 007 First Light, which topped the PS5 charts in both the U.S./Canada and Europe. Elsewhere, Star Wars Battlefront II and Red Dead Redemption 2 led PS4 downloads in their respective regions, I Am Cat claimed the top spot on PS VR2, and Fortnite remained the most-downloaded free-to-play game on PlayStation.
007 First Light Leads PS5 Downloads in the U.S. and Europe
James Bond's latest outing was PlayStation's biggest success story in May.
007 First Light topped both the U.S./Canada and European PS5 charts, finishing ahead of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which ranked second in both regions.
The rest of the top 10 showed some notable regional differences. NBA 2K26 ranked third in the U.S./Canada but fifth in Europe, while MLB The Show 26 reached fourth place in North America but did not appear in Europe's top 20. Grand Theft Auto V finished fifth in the U.S./Canada and third in Europe, while Minecraft placed sixth in North America and fourth in Europe.
Several newer releases also secured strong positions. Crimson Desert reached 10th in the U.S./Canada and eighth in Europe, while Mixtape placed 14th in North America and ninth in Europe. Saros also remained visible in both markets, ranking ninth in the U.S./Canada and 13th in Europe.
The PS5 charts this month reinforce a familiar trend: blockbuster releases still drive the majority of downloads, but long-tail engagement for established live-service and open-world titles remains extremely strong.
Star Wars Battlefront II and Red Dead Redemption 2 Continue to Lead PS4 Downloads
Sony's PS4 rankings highlighted the continued popularity of older titles.
Star Wars Battlefront II was the most-downloaded PS4 game in the U.S. and Canada, while Red Dead Redemption 2 claimed the No. 1 position in Europe. The two titles effectively traded places, with Battlefront II finishing second in Europe and Red Dead Redemption 2 ranking second in North America.
Batman: Arkham Knight remained in the top five in both regions, placing fourth in the U.S./Canada and fifth in Europe. Minecraft ranked eighth in North America and ninth in Europe, while Grand Theft Auto V finished 12th in the U.S./Canada and 10th in Europe.
Several long-running titles also continued to perform well, including Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Dying Light, The Forest, A Way Out, Overcooked 2, and God of War.
I Am Cat Tops the PS VR2 Charts
I Am Cat led the PS VR2 rankings in both regions, making it the most-downloaded virtual reality title on PlayStation in May.
The game finished ahead of Alien: Rogue Incursion VR in the U.S./Canada and Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition in Europe.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge – Enhanced Edition ranked third in North America and fourth in Europe, while Beat Saber placed fourth in the U.S./Canada and sixth in Europe. Job Simulator also appeared in both top 10 lists, ranking fifth in Europe and sixth in North America.
Meanwhile, Arizona Sunshine 2, Moss VR, Moss II VR, Horizon Call of the Mountain, and Metro Awakening rounded out the month's most-downloaded PS VR2 experiences. The VR space is clearly still experimental, but the data suggests players are gravitating toward accessible, fun-first experiences rather than purely cinematic ones.
Fortnite Holds No. 1 While NTE Breaks Into the Top Three
Fortnite once again topped the free-to-play charts in both the U.S./Canada and Europe.
The most notable challenger was NTE: Neverness to Everness, which reached No. 3 in the U.S./Canada and climbed to No. 2 in Europe, finishing ahead of established free-to-play titles such as Apex Legends, Fall Guys, VALORANT, and Asphalt Legends.
Roblox ranked second in North America and third in Europe, while Call of Duty: Warzone finished fourth in both regions. Rocket League placed eighth in the U.S./Canada and fourth in Europe.
Marvel Rivals maintained a strong presence in North America at No. 5, while eFootball reached sixth place in Europe.
What the May Charts Reveal
May's rankings show that PlayStation players continue to split their attention between major new releases and long-running favorites.
007 First Light emerged as the month's standout success on PS5, but older titles such as Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Star Wars Battlefront II continued to rank among PlayStation's most-downloaded games years after their original release.
Meanwhile, I Am Cat and NTE: Neverness to Everness were among the strongest-performing newer names in the PS VR2 and free-to-play categories, respectively, suggesting that new releases can still break through even in PlayStation's most established charts.
