Nearly 20 years after the PlayStation 3 launched and over a decade after the PlayStation Vita arrived, playstation.com has confirmed it is finally winding down digital storefront support for both legacy platforms. The company announced that the PlayStation Store on PS3 will begin closing in select markets later this year, with a global shutdown for both PS3 and PS Vita scheduled for July 2027. Once the stores close, players will no longer be able to purchase new digital games, downloadable content (DLC), or other content directly from the consoles. The announcement marks the end of an era for two platforms that helped define PlayStation's digital ecosystem.
When will the PlayStation Store close?
Sony is taking a phased approach. The first closures begin in August 2026 for Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additional countries across Latin America and the Middle East will follow later in 2026.
