Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is finally here, starting at $2,099 with a bigger 5,000mAh battery, faster 45W charging, a newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, improved cameras, and deeper Galaxy AI features. It doesn't completely reinvent the foldable formula, but it brings meaningful upgrades in the areas that matter most.
The question is whether those improvements, and that $2,099 price tag, are enough to justify upgrading from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, especially when last year's model still ranks among the best foldable phones available and is now selling for hundreds of dollars less than its original price.
Both phones keep the same tall, book-style design and 8-inch inner display, so the real differences show up in the details: durability, brightness, performance, battery, cameras, software, and price.

/1. Design and build quality
At first glance, the two phones look almost identical. Samsung clearly didn’t feel the need to overhaul a design that already worked. The Z Fold 8 Ultra remains incredibly thin at just 4.1mm when unfolded, only marginally slimmer than the Fold 7.
The bigger improvements are structural. Samsung says the new Flex Titanium display layer improves durability while also helping reduce the visibility of the crease. The hinge has also been refined, making the phone easier to unfold and more comfortable during daily use.
That said, both devices still carry the same IP48 rating, meaning dust protection continues to lag behind some rivals.
