The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has brought forward selected social grant payments for November 2026 ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections on 4 November, allowing millions of beneficiaries to receive their money earlier than originally scheduled.
Changes to the payment dates follow discussions with stakeholders aimed at keeping grant payments secure and running smoothly during the election period, according to SASSA.
“The agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner,” SASSA said in a statement.
If you are a beneficiary or looking to apply for the grant, here are the new dates and what you need to know regarding who is eligible.

What are the new SASSA payment dates?
November's grant payments were initially scheduled to begin on November 3, with subsequent payments on November 4 and 5. However, the local government elections on November 4 prompted SASSA to revise the calendar.
Under the new schedule, Older Persons Grants will be paid on October 30, followed by Disability Grants on November 2 and Children's Grants on November 3. SASSA has set aside November 5 for payments to beneficiaries whose grants are under review. Those affected should respond to official communications and attend any required review appointments.
Who qualifies for the revised payment schedule?
The revised dates apply to existing beneficiaries of the relevant grant categories and do not apply to new applicants or automatically make people who do not currently qualify eligible for financial assistance.
The main categories covered are:
- Older Person’s Grant: Eligible South African residents aged 60 and older who meet SASSA's other requirements, including its means test.
- Children's Grant: For caregivers receiving grants such as the Child Support Grant for children under 18, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.
- Disability Grant: For eligible residents aged 18 to 59 who meet the financial requirements and have a disability confirmed through the required medical assessment.
- Grants under review: Existing beneficiaries whose grants are being reviewed should follow SASSA's instructions and attend any required appointments.
