Some PlayStation customers could receive a share of a $7.85 million settlement with Sony following a class-action lawsuit that accused the company of overcharging consumers for games sold through the PlayStation Network.
The lawsuit, Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment, alleged that Sony violated federal antitrust laws and other state laws by maintaining a monopoly over the distribution of PlayStation games, allowing it to charge higher prices through the PlayStation Store.
This case was originally settled in 2024, but the proposed settlement was rejected twice during the approval process. A new approval process began in April, and a judge granted preliminary approval in May.
Now, eligible customers are waiting for the settlement to receive final approval. Here's who qualifies, how the payments will work, and when PlayStation customers could receive their money.

Who Qualifies for the PlayStation Settlement?
Customers who purchased an eligible video game through the PlayStation Network Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, are automatically included in the settlement class.
The settlement covers eligible purchases made during that period, including games from major franchises such as Call of Duty, The Last of Us, and Resident Evil. Sports titles from franchises including WWE, NBA 2K, and Madden are also included.

The settlement information is particularly relevant to eligible Connecticut residents, who may qualify for compensation under the case.
Do I Need to File a Claim?
No. Eligible members of the settlement class are automatically included. There is no traditional claim form that customers need to submit to receive their settlement payment.
According to the settlement website, payments will be deposited automatically into the payment account associated with an eligible PSN account. Customers with deactivated PSN accounts had until August 27 to request payment by check.
The deadline to exclude yourself from the settlement was July 2.
How Much Money Will PlayStation Customers Get?
The exact amount each eligible customer will receive has not been determined yet. The $7.85 million figure is the total settlement, not a $7.85 million payment that will be divided equally among every customer.
