The Tata Group, a conglomerate with interests in the automotive and steel industries, plans to begin producing semiconductors in India within a few years, according to Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons.

In an interview with Nikkei Asia, Chandrasekaran said that the company had established Tata Electronics, which will focus on semiconductor assembly and testing. He also indicated that the company may enter partnerships with existing chip manufacturers.
