Thailand is changing the rules for travellers who enter the country without a visa, with new limits on how long some visitors can stay and fewer nationalities eligible for Visa on Arrival.
Coming into effect on September 15, 2026, the changes replace the 60-day visa-free arrangement introduced in July 2024 for nationals of 93 countries and territories.
For travellers planning a trip to the Southeast Asian country, here is what you need to know.
Visa-free stays will now be limited to 30 days
The most noticeable change affects travellers who have become accustomed to Thailand's 60-day visa-free entry.
From September 15, eligible tourists from 60 countries and territories will instead be granted stays of up to 30 days.
The list still covers major travel and business hubs including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa, alongside several European countries.
For travellers planning longer holidays, extended stays or trips that combine Thailand with other destinations, the shorter initial stay means they will need to plan their time in the country more carefully.
A 60-day stay will still be possible, however. Those who need more time can apply for Thailand's tourist e-Visa before travelling or request an extension after arrival, subject to approval by Thai immigration authorities.
