Netflix has another critically acclaimed series on its hands, with The Diplomat returning for its fourth season on 15 October 2026.
All eight episodes are now available to stream worldwide, and within a day of its release, the Keri Russell-led political thriller had earned a 100% criticsโ score on Rotten Tomatoes, strengthening hopes that the series could continue.
But that perfect score is based on just nine reviews. While the early reception is encouraging, the question remains whether critical acclaim, audience interest, and the show's unresolved political conflicts will be enough to secure its return.

Why The Diplomat Season 4 Is Getting Such Strong Reviews
Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler, played by Russell, an experienced American diplomat whose assignment as ambassador to the United Kingdom becomes increasingly complicated by international crises and her marriage to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell).
The fourth season raises the stakes after the previous instalmentโs revelations about President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and Hal. Kate must deal with the consequences of their actions as political tensions threaten the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Critics have responded positively to the showโs mix of political manoeuvring, sharp dialogue and personal conflict. The Guardianโs review describes it as an โexquisitely stressfulโ drama, while Deciderโs review praises its continued exploration of power and political responsibility.
What Does A 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score Mean?
A perfect score is an encouraging sign, but it does not mean every critic has declared the season flawless. Rotten Tomatoes calculates its Tomatometer from the proportion of professional reviews classified as positive. It does not represent an average rating of 100 out of 100.
With only nine reviews listed at the time of writing, the score could change as more critics publish their assessments. The audience score is also a separate measure, and the early critical result alone cannot establish how widely the new episodes are being watched.
Still, the reception is a positive sign for Netflix. The company has a returning series that critics continue to support, while the showโs established cast and political storylines give existing viewers a reason to come back.
Has Netflix Renewed The Diplomat For Season 5?
As of 19 October 2026, Netflix has not officially announced a fifth season. There is, however, a story for a potential continuation. Season 4 leaves major questions around Kate, Hal and the Penn administration, giving the writers room to explore the political fallout in another instalment.
Russell and Sewell also remain central to the seriesโ appeal, as its diplomatic conflicts are closely tied to the complicated relationship between their characters.
