#5 – Samsung Galaxy AI

In 2023, AI tools and chatbots became a big success, and now in 2024, AI is becoming a part of more devices, especially smartphones. While Google's Pixel phones were the first to have AI onboard, Samsung is making it a key feature in the upcoming Galaxy S24.

In every Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy AI does lots of smart things like figuring out languages, translating stuff, creating pictures, and even helping with coding. These smart features use something called Google's Gemini family, with the Nano version for reading text and the Pro one for turning spoken words into text. No matter what you're doing on the new phones, chances are the smart AI is helping out in some way.

Check out the features below to see what Galaxy AI can do:

  • Search with Google using Circle: In the past, holding down the home button on Android activated Google's voice assistant. However, on the Galaxy S24, this action opens a screen overlay where you can tap or circle an object to initiate an image-based Google search. Since the search results appear on top of your current screen or app, exiting the interface simply takes you back to where you started.
  • Live Translate: Now, on the Galaxy S24, you can experience real-time translations during phone calls. The translations are on-device, and you can both hear and see transcriptions of the translated content. The person you're talking to will hear your words in their language.
  • Transcript Assist: Galaxy AI in the Samsung Notes app can transcribe, translate, and summarize voice memos and text. You can even customize how the summary looks, choosing between bulleted lists or paragraphs.
  • Generative Edit: Similar to Google's Magic Editor, Galaxy AI allows you to edit images by long-pressing or circling subjects, enabling you to move, resize, or remove them from the background. Additionally, you can expand images using generative fill, powered by Google's Imagen 2 running in the background.
  • Chat Assist: When you're uncertain about how to phrase a message, Galaxy AI can suggest alternative wording in various tones, including casual and formal expressions.
💡
Samsung notes that all Galaxy AI features, except those specific to camera hardware, will be available across the three S24 models. It's important to note that Galaxy AI does not replace Bixby.
