Intel's stock jumped as much as 9% on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Apple has agreed to work with the chipmaker to design and manufacture chips in the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and build its Chips in America."

He also used the announcement to criticize previous administrations, saying, "Stupid Presidents took our Economy for granted, and let Taiwan and others steal our Semiconductor Factories."

The market reacted almost immediately as Intel shares surged in premarket trading, while Apple's stock was up less than 1%. But there's an important catch here: neither Apple nor Intel has publicly confirmed the partnership.

That doesn't necessarily mean Trump's claim came out of nowhere.

Apple Reportedly Returns to Intel to Produce its Chips
Apple may rely on Intel for some M-series chips by 2027, giving the chipmaker a chance to revive its foundry business and reduce Apple’s dependence on TSMC.
