Product designers, UX designers, industrial designers and other applied design professionals will soon have a dedicated route to the UK's Global Talent visa under new immigration rules taking effect on 1 July 2026.
Introduced as part of the UK's March 2026 immigration reforms under Statement of Changes HC 1691, the new Design Industry endorsement creates a dedicated pathway for designers whose work previously had to fit within broader arts and culture categories. The change is intended to make it easier for commercially focused designers to demonstrate their achievements and potential under a framework designed specifically for the profession.
But for applicants, the biggest attraction of the Global Talent visa remains unchanged. Unlike the Skilled Worker visa, it doesn't require employer sponsorship, a minimum salary or even a job offer. Rather, successful applicants can work for multiple employers, freelance, start businesses and change jobs without applying for a new visa.
Here's what the new pathway means, who qualifies, what documents you'll need, how much it costs and how to apply.
