The 2026 Emmys Are Already Full of Surprises

The Creative Arts Emmys have already reshaped the awards race, with Widow’s Bay, Bad Bunny and several unexpected winners stealing the spotlight before the main ceremony.

The 2026 Emmy Awards have already delivered some unexpected winners, with Widow's Bay, The Pitt, Pluribus, and The Beast in Me among the shows taking home major honours.

Some of the biggest surprises came from Apple TV's Widow's Bay, which won two of the seven music categories. In comparison, Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX halftime show dominated opening night, winning all seven categories in which it was nominated.

The Creative Arts Emmys were held across September 5 and 6 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with more than 100 awards handed out ahead of the main ceremony. The 78th Emmy Awards will take place on September 14, with Mariska Hargitay hosting the NBC and Peacock broadcast.

Widow's Bay Breaks Through in The Music Categories

Widow's Bay became one of the biggest winners of the second Creative Arts ceremony, collecting eight Emmys overall.

Its two music victories came in Outstanding Music Composition for a Series and Outstanding Music Supervision. David Fleming won for the score of “Our History”, while Toko Nagata took the music supervision award for “Beach Reads”.

The result was notable because the Apple TV series faced competition from established titles including Stranger Things, The Boys, Hacks and Pluribus. Its success also helped push Widow's Bay to the top of the Night Two leaderboard, ahead of DTF St. Louis, which collected six awards.

The Pitt and Pluribus Also Upset Stronger Contenders

The Pitt picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Need Someone”, with music by Gavin Brivik and music and lyrics by Andrew Bird. The win adds to a strong Creative Arts weekend for the HBO Max medical drama, which also won for casting, prosthetic makeup and guest acting.

Pluribus delivered another surprise by taking Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. Dave Porter won for the Apple TV series, beating music from The Beast in Me, Murderbot, All Her Fault and The 'Burbs. Porter also earned an Emmy for his work as scoring mixer on Pluribus' sound mixing win.
