Apple’s Japanese unit to pay $98 million in taxes for overlooking abuses of rules covering duty-free purchases

Tokyo authorities have charged Apple's Japanese unit 13 billion yen ($98 million) in additional taxes for bulk sales of iPhones and other devices to foreign tourists that were incorrectly exempted from the consumption tax, a report by Nikkei Asia stated.
