Dune: Awakening has finally arrived on Xbox Series X|S, more than a year after Funcom's open-world survival game first launched on PC.
Set on Arrakis, Dune: Awakening combines survival mechanics, RPG progression, base building, and a cinematic story in an alternate take on the Dune universe. Instead of retelling the events of the books and films, the game imagines what Arrakis might look like if Paul Atreides had never been born.
But the Xbox release isn't simply the original PC version arriving on another platform. Funcom has spent the past year expanding and refining the game, and Xbox players are getting those updates alongside a full single-player experience, new customization options, and a rebuilt endgame.
So, if you're wondering when Dune: Awakening launched on Xbox, whether it's on Game Pass, how it runs on Series X and Series S, whether you can play it solo, and what the Xbox version includes, here's everything you need to know.

When did Dune: Awakening come out on Xbox?
Dune: Awakening launched on Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners received early access from September 17, while the standard Xbox release followed on September 22.
The game is also available on Xbox PC and through Xbox Cloud Gaming, and it supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing progression to carry between Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store PC version.
Is Dune: Awakening on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes. Dune: Awakening is available on Xbox Game Pass from launch.
That makes the Xbox version considerably easier to try, particularly for players who aren't sure whether Funcom's combination of survival mechanics, RPG progression and MMO-style systems is for them.
The game is also available to purchase separately, with the Xbox Store listing the standard edition alongside Deluxe and Ultimate Editions.
What does the Xbox version of Dune: Awakening include?
This is probably the most important thing to understand about the Xbox release.
You're not getting the same early version that PC players experienced when Dune: Awakening first launched.
Funcom has spent the past year expanding and refining the game, and those additions are included in the Xbox release. That includes the full Book One story, new areas, missions, dynamic encounters, progression systems, combat improvements, and a rebuilt endgame.
There's also a proper single-player mode, which is a significant change for anyone who previously dismissed Dune: Awakening as something they would need to play as an MMO.
You can now experience the full game alone, with the same overall content and story available in single-player.
Can you play Dune: Awakening entirely solo?
Yes. Funcom has added a full single-player experience to Dune: Awakening, rather than simply offering a limited solo mode.
