Glee is a good example of a show that ends, but its audience never quite moves on. More than 11 years after its final episode aired in March 2015, the musical comedy-drama is officially returning, with Disney+ and Hulu ordering a reboot on 21 October 2026.

The new series will come from 20th Television, the studio behind the original, with co-creator Ryan Murphy involved in developing the project.

There’s no confirmed release date, cast list or plot synopsis yet, so viewers will have to wait to see what the revival looks like. Its success will also depend on whether Glee can recapture its original appeal while connecting with a generation that has grown up with TikTok, streaming playlists and a very different television landscape.

Jackson Lamb and his team face a political conspiracy in the next instalment of Apple TV+’s acclaimed spy drama, with a 2027 release expected but not yet confirmed.

Where Will the Glee Reboot Stream?

The new series has been ordered for Disney+ and Hulu, giving it access to two major streaming platforms within Disney’s entertainment business. ABC News confirmed that the reboot is being produced by 20th Television, which also made the original series.

However, Disney has not confirmed whether the two services will carry the show in exactly the same way in every market. Hulu operates primarily in the United States, while Disney+ serves international audiences in countries where it is available.

Viewers in Nigeria and other markets should therefore check their local Disney+ catalogue and announcements rather than assume the reboot will be available everywhere at the same time.

There is also no confirmed subscription price specifically for the reboot. Access will depend on the relevant streaming service and local subscription plan. In the meantime, all 121 episodes of the original Glee are available on Hulu in the US, giving returning viewers an opportunity to revisit the series.

What Do We Know About the Story and Cast?

The original Glee, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, followed New Directions, a struggling high school show choir at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. Its mix of musical performances, teenage relationships, comedy and stories about identity helped it build a devoted following.

The reboot’s storyline remains under wraps. It is not yet clear whether it will follow a new group of students, continue the original characters’ stories or combine both approaches.

There is some reason to expect familiar creative voices. Murphy told Entertainment Tonight in September that he, Falchuk and Brennan had written a script. He also said he had spoken with around 10 original cast members about the possibility of returning. However, those conversations do not confirm that any particular actor has signed on.

Can Glee Still Connect With a New Generation?

The original series ran for six seasons between 2009 and 2015, winning six Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes for best television series, musical or comedy.

It also earned recognition for its representation of LGBTQ+ characters and its willingness to bring conversations about bullying, acceptance and identity into mainstream entertainment.

Its music was another major part of its success. Covers of popular songs helped introduce viewers to different artists and genres, while the cast’s performances became a major part of the show’s identity. Reuters’ report on the reboot notes how its musical covers and mash-ups helped make it a cultural phenomenon.
