Google unveils Doppl, a new virtual outfit try-on app
Try on outfits using a digital version of yourself with no changing room required.

There’s a moment of hesitation we’ve all felt. You spot a great outfit, maybe while scrolling social media or browsing in a store, but can’t quite picture if it would suit you. Google’s new app, Doppl, is stepping in to answer that question with AI. Instead of guessing, you can now try the look on a virtual version of yourself without ever touching a fitting room.
Doppl, now available in the U.S. on iOS and Android, lets users upload a full-body photo and use screenshots or outfit images from nearly anywhere to generate a personalized try-on experience. Whether it’s something your friend wore last weekend or a style you saw in a thrift store, Doppl transforms that image into a digital outfit preview on you. And it doesn’t stop at static images. The app can animate the try-on with AI-generated video to help you see how the fabric might move or fit.
This isn’t Google’s first foray into virtual try-ons. Through Google Shopping, it previously introduced ways to preview clothes on models with different body types. What’s new here is the focus: it’s no longer a generic model, it’s you.

That level of personalization isn’t entirely new; apps like Fit Room, AI Clothes Changer – GIGI, and YouCam Makeup have offered similar virtual try-on features. But Doppl brings its own spin by including full-body rendering and animated previews, aiming to give users a more dynamic sense of how an outfit might look and move. Whether that experience feels more lifelike or effective will likely depend on user preferences and how well the app performs across different body types and clothing styles.
It’s still early days. Google has acknowledged that Doppl won’t always get the fit, fabric, or drape right. But this launch gives users a hands-on preview of where personal style and AI might be heading. Saved outfits, sharable looks, and animated styling aren’t just tech gimmicks; they’re also a glimpse into how online fashion might evolve in the next few years.
As with many Google Labs experiments, Doppl is a test as much as it is a tool. If users embrace it, this could reshape how people explore clothing before they ever hit “add to cart.”
