You probably check the weather on your iPhone without even thinking before heading out for a run, planning your commute, or figuring out if you need an umbrella. But sometimes, the Weather app shows the wrong city or defaults to your current location when you’d rather keep tabs on somewhere else, maybe your hometown, a travel destination, or where your family lives.

It’s a small detail, but it can be annoying when you’re trying to stay ahead of the day. The good news? You can easily take control of which locations your Apple device tracks, whether you’re using the Weather app or a widget on your home screen or lock screen. In this quick guide, learn how to change and manage weather locations across your iPhone, so you always get the forecast that actually matters to you.

How to Change Weather Location on iPhone

A. By enabling Location Services to automatically show the weather for your current location

If your Apple Weather app shows weather for a different location than your current location, you need to enable Location Services on your iPhone. Doing this will allow the app to automatically display the weather for your current location.

Step 1: Open Settings on your iPhone

Step 2: In Settings scroll down and click on Privacy & Security

Step 3: Click on Location Services

Step 4: Toggle on Location Services

Step 5: Scroll down and tap on Weather, then select Always

Step 6: Open your iPhone's Weather app to view the weather for your current location

B. Manually Setting a Default Location

Typically, the Weather app shows your current location first when Location Services is enabled. If you don't see it, you can manually change the location and keep your preferred city as the default in the app

💡
If you want a location other than your current one to be the default in the Weather app, first turn off Location Services specifically for Weather, if you want to do that follow step 1-4 in the previous section only difference is you toggle off Location Services.

Step 1: Open the Weather app on your iPhone

Step 2: Click on the List icon at the bottom of the iPhone

Step 3: Search for the location you want weather information for, then tap it in the search results

Step 4: Click on the Add button to add the location you want

How to Change Weather Widget Location on iPhone

By default, your iPhone's weather widget shows the weather for your current location. If you want it to show a different location, follow these steps:

Step 1: Long-press the Weather widget on your iPhone

Step 2: Click Edit Widget from the menu. Then, click on My Location

Step 3: Select the preferred location from the list. Or use the search bar to find a new location

Conclusion

Changing the weather location on your iPhone is simple, but it makes a big difference, whether you’re planning a trip, keeping tabs on family in another city, or just want your widget to show your hometown. With a few quick adjustments in the Weather app or widget settings, you can get accurate forecasts for the places that matter most to you.
