I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve thought, “I should message them later about this,” and then completely forget. Whether it’s a birthday greeting, a follow-up for a collaboration, or just a friendly reminder to a friend, the timing of a message can really matter—but life gets in the way.

That’s why I was genuinely excited when Instagram introduced the ability to schedule DMs. You can schedule text messages up to 29 days in advance.

It’s perfect for staying organised, managing brand or creator accounts, or even just making sure you don’t miss a chance to check in with someone at the right moment. And best of all, it’s super easy to use. Here's how.

Steps to Schedule Messages on Instagram

Step 1: Open the Instagram app and select the direct messages icon in the top right corner

Step 2: Select an existing conversation in the Messages section or create a new conversation by clicking the New message icon in the top right

Step 3: Now, type the message you would like to schedule. Then, instead of simply clicking the send button, press and hold it

💡
Note that you can only schedule text messages. Photos, videos, and GIFs must still be sent in real time.

Step 4: A scheduling tool will open. Hence, pick a date and time using the calendar interface and confirm your selection

💡
Until the message is delivered, you'll see a banner at the top of the message box whenever you open the chat, letting you know you have a message scheduled to send.

Mastering the art of deleting Instagram comments puts you back in control of your online experience.

Conclusion

Instagram’s DM scheduling feature might seem like a small upgrade, but for people who juggle communication with friends, clients, or followers, it’s a game-changer. It removes the stress of remembering to message someone at the perfect time.

So, whether you’re planning thoughtful birthday notes or simply trying to keep your day a little more organized, scheduled DMs give you one less thing to remember and one more way to use Instagram more intentionally.
