Wizards of the Coast has announced a new round of Magic: The Gathering Banned & Restricted updates, banning cards across Legacy, Pauper, and Brawl as it looks to rein in dominant strategies and improve gameplay ahead of major tournaments.
The update targets decks that have begun dominating competitive play, while also reshaping MTG Arena's traditional Brawl format to better support casual players. The changes take effect immediately, with the next Banned & Restricted announcement scheduled for August 30.
Legacy loses the Candelabra of Tawnos
The biggest change for Legacy players is the banning of Candelabra of Tawnos, a card Wizards says has become a key enabler of the rapidly growing Colorless Tron archetype.
According to WotC, Colorless Tron has recently seen a significant increase in popularity while maintaining a strong win rate, raising concerns about the deck's long-term impact on the format.
