One of Vanillaware's most stylish action RPGs is making its return.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch on February 4, 2027, publisher Marvelous and developer Vanillaware have announced. The release date was revealed alongside a new gameplay showcase highlighting the game's sword-based combat, progression systems and upgraded presentation.
The remaster will be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam.
The new release combines Muramasa: Rebirth, originally released on PlayStation Vita, with its Genroku Legends side-story content in one package. Marvelous describes it as an "elevated revival" of Vanillaware's classic 2D action RPG.
What Is Muramasa: Revenant Blades?
Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a side-scrolling action RPG set during Japan's Genroku era, where supernatural forces and mythical creatures have taken over the land.
The game features six playable protagonists, each with their own story, goals and fighting style. According to the official PlayStation announcement, the stories can be played in any order, with each character following their own journey rather than a single linear campaign.
The six stories offer very different situations, from characters dealing with cursed swords to revenge and romance. That structure gives Revenant Blades a broader scope than simply retelling one protagonist's adventure.
Marvelous says all six stories will be available from the beginning, making this the most complete version of the game to date.
Muramasa Gets Upgraded Visuals and English Voice Acting
The biggest visual upgrade is the move to modern high-definition and 4K presentation on supported platforms.
Marvelous says the game's characters, maps and animations have been "meticulously upgraded to gorgeous 4K," while still maintaining Vanillaware's distinctive 2D artwork.
The remaster also introduces English voice acting for the first time.
