Wardogs Tops the Steam Charts as PS5 and Xbox Release Window Is Revealed

Wardogs is finally coming to consoles.

After attracting plenty of attention during its beta and playtests on PC, Bulkhead has confirmed, per a Polygon report, that the multiplayer first-person shooter will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2028.

There's still a fairly long wait ahead, especially considering Wardogs has only just entered Steam Early Access. But for players who have been watching the game from the sidelines, we finally have a window to work with.

You can already wishlist Wardogs on both consoles, although Bulkhead hasn't announced a specific release date within 2028.

Wardogs Player Count Has Surged on Steam

The console announcement also comes as Wardogs launches into Steam Early Access following several popular beta and closed-playtest periods.

Those tests attracted a surprisingly large audience. According to SteamDB's player statistics, Wardogs reached a peak of 337,157 concurrent players during its Early Access launch, up from 245,118 during its beta.

That's a substantial audience for a new FPS, particularly one built around a more old-school approach to multiplayer.

Bulkhead's pitch for the game is summed up by its "play like you used to" tagline, with the studio aiming for the kind of multiplayer experience where players actually interact with each other rather than simply jumping between matches.

Wardogs Is Inspired by Classic Multiplayer FPS Games

Bulkhead says Wardogs is designed around an era when multiplayer shooters were more social, unpredictable, and difficult to put down.

The studio isn't trying to hide the game's influences, either. The launch trailer deliberately takes inspiration from Halo 3's famous "Believe" trailer, using a similar cinematic approach to introduce the game.
