Netflix has released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s 1955 novel.
The film tells the story of how Narnia began, following two children who discover a way to travel between worlds and witness the creation of the magical land.
Starring David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Meryl Streep and Emma Mackey, the film will open in cinemas worldwide on 12 February 2027, with IMAX previews starting on 10 February, before arriving on Netflix on 2 April. Its cinema release gives the film an extended run on the big screen before it becomes available to subscribers.

What The First Trailer Reveals
The trailer introduces Digory Kirke, played by David McKenna, and Polly Plummer, played by Beatrice Campbell, two children who discover magical rings that transport them between different worlds. Their journey eventually brings them to Narnia, where they witness the land’s creation.
The footage moves from a more muted version of London into colourful, otherworldly landscapes, with magical portals, a flying horse and glimpses of the world taking shape. The trailer also introduces Aslan, voiced by Meryl Streep, and Jadis, the character who becomes the White Witch, played by Emma Mackey.
One striking detail is the use of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” over the footage. According to the Associated Press, Gerwig secured permission for the song after meeting band members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The music gives the fantasy story a different feel from the familiar orchestral style often associated with family adventures.
Why Gerwig Is Starting With Narnia’s Origins
Although The Magician’s Nephew was published after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, it tells an earlier part of the story. Rather than revisiting the Pevensie children’s arrival in Narnia, Gerwig is exploring how the world came into existence and how its best-known figures first became part of its history.
