OpenAI Dots, GPT-6.1 Sol: DevDay 2026 Biggest Announcements

Three weeks ago, Meta launched its AI agent, Meta Muse, and made it free to try. Now OpenAI has launched a rival, and it'll cost you at least $100 a month.

It's called OpenAI Dots, and CEO Sam Altman unveiled it on Tuesday, September 29, at OpenAI DevDay 2026, the company's yearly developer conference. Dots are AI agents that keep working for you even after you log off. Unlike Muse, which is US-only, Dots works outside the US, but you'll need ChatGPT's Pro or Business Premium plan.

OpenAI made 24 other announcements at the event, including GPT-6.1 Sol, a model it says is 80% cheaper than its flagship, GPT-6 Astra. Most ChatGPT plans pick up something new. If you're on the $200 Pro plan, though, you're about to lose around half your usage by the end of October. Here are the biggest announcements.

/1. OpenAI Dots are rolling out now

Dots started rolling out on Tuesday to Pro and Business Premium users, but Pro users in most of Europe, including the EU and UK, will have to wait. One Dot comes with your plan. OpenAI says you'll be able to add more later, but it hasn't said what they'll cost. "I have been waiting for this product for years," Altman said after OpenAI's Holly Li showed it off on stage.

/2. GPT-6.1 Sol is out, but GPT-6.1 Astra was shelved over deception concerns

Sol costs developers $2 per million tokens in and $10 per million out, against Astra's $10 and $50. In ChatGPT, it's available on Plus and above, but not on the Free or Go plans. The day before DevDay, OpenAI shelved GPT-6.1 Astra after safety tests flagged higher levels of deception, and Altman didn't mention it on stage.

/3. There's now a $500 ChatGPT plan, and the $200 one is getting smaller

The new Pro 500 plan gives you 25 times the usage you'd get on Plus, plus access to Ultrafast, OpenAI's new speed setting. The $200 plan, meanwhile, costs the same but gives you less.

From October 30, its allowance for work tasks and Codex drops from 20 times to 10 times, and messages to its GPT-6 Pro model go from 200 a week to 100, according to its help page. If you already pay $200, OpenAI says you keep your current limits until October 29.

/4. 300 tokens a second with OpenAI's Ultrafast setting

Ultrafast makes GPT-6 Astra up to eight times quicker than normal. You can use it through OpenAI's API, the platform developers build apps on, or in ChatGPT and Codex if you're on the $500 Pro plan or Enterprise.

It costs more than the standard speed, and Altman didn't pretend otherwise: "You know what, it's worth it." OpenAI says a Sol version is coming within days.

/5. ChatGPT Space puts your team and your AI agents in the same workspace

Space is a shared workspace where your colleagues and your Dots work together. Think of it as OpenAI's answer to Google Workspace. Inside it, Pages hold text, live charts, and even working prototypes, and you can tag a Dot in a comment to get something done. Collaborative Slides arrive in the coming weeks and export to PowerPoint or Google Slides. It's all for Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.
