The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and Note 17 Pro Max 5G are built around the same idea, but Redmi has given the more expensive model several upgrades that could make the two phones feel quite different in everyday use.
Both devices feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, Redmi's Titan Structure, HyperOS 3, and Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. However, the Pro Max steps things up with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip, LPDDR5X RAM, faster UFS 4.1 storage on select configurations, a larger battery, faster charging, and a more capable front camera.
With both phones targeting buyers who want strong hardware without moving into flagship pricing, the key question is whether the Pro Max's additional features are worth paying more for.

/1. Performance
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a 4nm chip with an octa-core CPU that reaches up to 2.4 GHz. The Pro Max moves to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, also built on 4nm technology, with CPU speeds reaching 2.6GHz.
The difference goes beyond clock speed. The Pro Max pairs its processor with LPDDR5X RAM, while the Pro uses LPDDR4X. Xiaomi also gives the Pro Max UFS 4.1 storage on its 256GB and 512GB configurations, compared with UFS 3.1 on the Pro’s higher-capacity models. This makes the Pro Max better suited to demanding games, heavier multitasking and large file transfers.
/2. Display
Both phones use a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 12-bit colour depth, 240Hz touch sampling and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Both also use Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The Pro Max adds something the Pro does not, which is support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Its display can also reach 2,000 nits in high-brightness mode, while the Pro lists 1,060 nits of typical brightness alongside its 3,500-nit UHBM figure. The Pro already has a sharp, smooth panel, so the upgrade is more about refinement than size or resolution.
/3. Battery Life
Battery capacity is where Redmi has created the biggest gap. The Note 17 Pro carries an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery with 67W HyperCharge. Xiaomi says it can deliver more than two days of battery life under its testing conditions.
The Pro Max raises that to 10,000mAh and adds 100W HyperCharge. Xiaomi rates it for up to three days of use, with up to 40 hours of video playback, although actual endurance will depend on how the phone is used.
The Pro Max supports up to 27W wired reverse charging, compared with 22.5W on the Pro, allowing it to act more effectively as a power source for accessories or another phone.
