Sony is set to distribute $7.85 million in PlayStation Store credit to eligible customers in the United States following a class-action lawsuit over the company's digital game voucher practices.
The important thing to know is that most eligible PlayStation users don't need to submit a claim form. If you qualify and your PlayStation Network account is still active, your settlement payment is expected to be added directly to your PSN wallet once the settlement receives final court approval.
The settlement comes from Caccuri v. Sony Interactive Entertainment, which accused Sony of restricting competition by preventing other online retailers from selling game-specific digital PlayStation vouchers. Sony has denied the allegations and any wrongdoing. The court has also not determined that Sony violated any laws. Instead, the proposed settlement is intended to resolve the litigation.
So, if you've bought digital PlayStation games in the U.S. over the relevant period, here's what you need to know.
Who is eligible for the PlayStation settlement?
You may be included in the settlement if you meet all of these requirements:
- You are a living individual human being.
- You live in the United States or one of its territories.
- You purchased at least one eligible digital game through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023.
- The game you purchased is included on the settlement's list of eligible titles.
If you meet those requirements, you are automatically part of the settlement class unless you previously opted out. That last point is important because you generally do not need to file a traditional claim to receive the payment.
