Sony is reportedly reworking Horizon Hunters Gathering after negative feedback from playtesters, with Guerrilla Games moving the multiplayer spin-off away from some of the live-service elements that shaped its original direction.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Guerrilla began working on the reboot in June after player testing raised concerns about the game. The reported changes include removing its live-service elements and shifting the project toward a smaller-scale co-op experience with a story mode.
The change is notable because it comes as Sony continues to rethink how much of its PlayStation strategy should depend on live-service games.
Horizon Hunters Gathering is being reworked after negative feedback
Sony and Guerrilla announced Horizon Hunters Gathering in February 2026 as a three-player co-op action game for PS5 and PC. Rather than putting players back in the shoes of Aloy, the game would let them play as Hunters and team up to fight machines across the Horizon world.
Guerrilla described it as a tactical co-op experience built around teamwork, with customisable Hunters, different missions and a narrative campaign that would form part of the Horizon canon.
