The Witcher 3 Remastered: Release Date & PC Requirements

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is out today, September 29, bringing a substantial visual, technical and gameplay overhaul to CD Projekt Red's 2015 RPG. It's available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with the game also making its debut on Battle.net.

For existing owners, the upgrade is free on supported platforms. If you're planning to return to The Witcher 3 today, here's how the upgrade works, how much space you'll need and what your PC needs to run the new version.

How do you get The Witcher 3 Remastered for free?

If you already own The Witcher 3 on a supported platform, you don't need to purchase the Remastered version separately.

On PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the Remastered release is delivered through the game you already own. If you have automatic updates enabled, the update should be handled through your platform's normal update process.

Nintendo Switch 2 works a little differently because it has its own native version. However, existing owners of The Witcher 3 on the original Nintendo Switch can claim the Switch 2 version for free.

Battle.net is different again because The Witcher 3 is new to Blizzard's platform. Players who don't already own the game through another qualifying platform will need to purchase it there.

There's also a useful change for players who only owned the base game. CD Projekt Red has made Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine part of the base-game package, so existing owners get access to both expansions without buying them separately.

How big is The Witcher 3 Remastered?

This is where it's worth separating the download size from the amount of storage your PC needs.

The Remastered update is around 45GB on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version is around 50GB. The exact download can vary by platform and, on PC, by installed language packs.

PC players, however, need 70GB of available SSD storage to meet the game's official requirement.

The distinction matters because a roughly 45GB download doesn't mean you'll only need 45GB free. If you're installing on PC, CD Projekt Red's published requirement is 70GB on an SSD.

On PlayStation 5, early launch-day listings put the download at around 68.57GB, showing why it's safer to check the storage figure on your specific platform rather than assuming every version will be identical.
