Twitter has launched its subscription service, Twitter Blue, in India, Brazil and Indonesia, as the company aims to expand its monetization efforts.
Twitter Blue offers users on the social media platform a range of added features such as the blue check mark, the ability to edit tweets, longer videos, and more. The monthly cost for Twitter Blue is $10.9 on iOS and Android in India and around $7.8 for those paying through the web.
Twitter's foray into subscription services is part of its attempt to increase monetization efforts. The company has plans to reduce the number of ads that subscribers see on the Twitter website and app, and also enhance the reach of paying users on the platform.
Wednesday's launch makes Twitter Blue available to users in 15 markets, including two key overseas markets, India and Brazil, where Twitter has over 100 million monthly active users according to Sensor Tower. Although the monthly cost of Twitter Blue is higher compared to other services such as Netflix and Apple Music, the company has plans to add more features to make it more appealing to users.
