What Actually Happened
According to Anthropic's public statement, the US government issued the directive citing national security authorities, and the letter offered no specific evidence of harm. The company's understanding is that someone brought a potential jailbreak technique to the government's attention, a method of bypassing Fable 5's safety guardrails, and that was enough to trigger the order.
